Picking a film to launch our SCA Cinema Club was always going to be difficult. However, those of you who have stepped into our spaces will know that we attempt to transport audiences to beautiful, almost cinematic landscapes which are informed by dystopian sci-fi movies.

Blade Runner felt like a great film to compliment the style and mood of our Port Hope warehouse. Visually stunning, with deep themes and plenty of action, it is the sort of film that demands to be seen on the big screen. Released in 1982, Blade Runner changed the landscape of what a science fiction movie could achieve. It has aged well, gaining a cult following and a very successful sequel. We’re bringing it to our giant screen in Sparkbrook to give it the setting it deserves. With that in mind we set about preparing our space.

Our Port Hope space isn’t just a venue, we treat it like an artist’s canvas, experimenting with light, sound and visuals. These elements are not an afterthought, but almost an extension of the art being showcased in the space

When people enter our space, they are entering a new world, stepping into our transformed former industrial unit. Whether we are delivering dinners, conversations, performances or film screenings, the aim is always to create an escape from the grime on our doorstep that our guests just stepped out of.

Blade Runner was the perfect film to launch our SCA Cinema Club, a new addition to our programme where we showcase independent films, big budget international films and sometimes even our own films.
