From March 12th – 16th we will be opening up the Ramadan Streets space to welcome groups of students from surrounding schools and community groups who will take part in our creative workshops exploring the themes of Ramadan, with particular emphasis on the importance of food during the month.
Our resident visual artist, Asia Alfasi, will be leading these workshops, inviting students to add their own creative flare to Anime inspired art banners, combining the traditional with the contemporary, hoping to inspire and educate children from all backgrounds.
Groups will be invited into our heated marquee and participants can take part in an artistic program entitled “Breaking Bread”. It has been designed to celebrate community and togetherness, reaffirming peace, reconciliation and gratitude as fundamental aspects of Ramadan.
Students will be guided through an initial discussion on the topics of food, community and togetherness, and then led by Asia to learn Manga character techniques that will contribute to a combined art piece. The resulting artistic canvasses will be displayed for thousands to see during the night market.
This workshop is designed to develop participant’s understanding of other cultures and to engage them in a creative process which will result in a finished piece for which they can take a sense of ownership.
