Eid in Kings Heath is our annual Eid event, returning for a spectacular second year in 2024, in which we transform All Saints Square into a vibrant celebration of culture.
"Our city lacks spaces for us to gather and connect with other communities," said Soul City Arts founder Mohammed Ali, renowned for his 2021 'I Can't Breathe' artwork. "We rub shoulders daily but know very little about one another. Nobody's going to change that except us."
Thousands gathered at All Saints Square to celebrate Eid and their differences. The square transformed into a hub of visual art, music, and food. Everyone was welcome.
Careful thought went into the traders attending. Great Barr star and Saturday Kitchen live chef, Scran Man, offered his legendary Philly Cheesesteaks. Raja Monkey brought their curry and chips, a must-try from one of the Midlands' best Indian restaurants.
Attendees enjoyed Egyptian food from Kings Heath's Masrawy, Malaysian dishes from Satay Birmingham, and even camel milk from Hump Group. The Milkcake Man offered coluorful desserts, Plant N Plate provided vegan delights, and Yardley Wood's Smash Town handled burgers.
Ice cream and gelato from LA POP, books from The Heath and How Brave is the Wren, and Birmingham-made beef jerky and biltong from Primal Jerky were all available. Old school sweets from Professor Willy's and chicken wings from Keebos added to the culinary diversity.
Live art featured graffiti guru Zooki and calligraphy by Ismail Hussayn. Ensemble Safaa provided live singing.
The event highlighted the importance of community connection and celebrating differences, leaving a lasting impact on all who attended.
