23 SEPTEMBER 2017 – 7 JANUARY 2018
Soul City Arts Presents a major new exhibition at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (UK)

Birmingham is home to hundreds of Indian restaurants, but most are unaware that it was the Bangladeshi community that pioneered ‘Curry Culture’ in Britain.

The Knights of the Raj exhibition captures the untold stories of those pioneers, tracing the origins of the Birmingham curry trade back to the 1940’s. The exhibition features rare photographs, unique artefacts, videos, interactive displays and oral histories that tell the fascinating story of the much-loved British Curry.

A Special Bonus event is planned for the Launch:

22 SEPTEMBER 2017 | 7.00pm
Launch Dinner & Performance at the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery: Edwardian Tea Room.

TICKETS £25 (Includes 3 Course Meal)

This event will transform the Edwardian Tea Rooms into a bustling Indian Restaurant for a one-off extravaganza of dramatic re-enactments, live-music and oral history soundscapes – bringing to life the stories of the real ‘Knights of the Raj!’

Audience members will become immersed in a soundscape of spoken and recorded voices as they are served fine Bangladeshi cuisine by a troupe of traditional waiters & chefs.
